How does your nutrition taste? Is the food you're putting in your body hitting all the brain receptors leaving them ecstatic, but leaving you feeling bloated, lethargic and just overall terrible? This is what poor nutrition does. It makes your brain think very happy thoughts, but leaves your body with inflammation, constipation and headaches.
National Nutrition Month is a great time to learn about how to properly fuel your body. It's important to put the food in your body that provides the nutrients it needs to grow and develop properly as well as keep your energy up and reduce the risk of developing chronic diseases. The guidelines to follow are to eat a variety of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, seafood, legumes and nuts. Per the Dietitians of Canada you'll want to include good sources of specific nutrients as well, particularly for females – calcium, iron, folate, vitamin B12, and vitamin D. Start now. Include a protein, fruit and a vegetable in every meal. Snack on nuts and legumes. There are so many delicious recipes easily accessible online (and HERE!) to get you started. You brain will respond just as ecstatically to a well-planned and cooked nutritious meal, as it will to that slice of pizza.
